Lilly Iris Mitchell

 

A native of Tippo, Mississippi, Lilly Iris Mitchell received her degree in education at Delta State University. She is presently retired from a career of teaching first grade and elementary art. Her preferred media are watercolor and pastel. Iris has taught art students from ages 4 to 84. She presently instructs her peers on Thursday mornings at First Baptist Church in Greenville.  

 

Iris has two grown sons, Murray and Drew, as well as a daughter, Melanie, and is the very proud grandmother of nine grandchildren. In 2002, she received the Creativity Award for the Northern Region of Mississippi, presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield in their Ageless Heroes program. In 2004, she received the Art in Education Award from the Greenville Arts Council at their annual Greenville Honors Its Own event.  

Iris has served on the Board of Directors of the Greenville Arts Council, and is a charter member of the Delta Artists Association, where she has served alternately as Secretary, Treasurer, and President.
